I played pool at a place where there was no chalk whatsoever, therefore you had to hit the centre of the cue ball every time or it was a miscue. That's what came to my mind when watching those old cues in the video.

I do believe a knowledge of billiards and even pool helps your snooker understanding of the game. I have played with some of those older balls. My grandfather was Blackpool snooker champion at 13 years of age, and he had his own table. As seen in the clip you literally had to play the balls head on as imparting side was extremely difficult unless you hit it with a rocket.
